Denuvo DRM has been removed from Resident Evil 2 on Windows PC.

Releasing all the way back in January, Resident Evil 2 was a fairly well-received remake of a 90s classic. One issue many cited with the PC port, however, was the inclusion of Denuvo. The DRM has been attributed by some to have a host of technical problems, such as high CPU usage, unnecessary wear on hard drives, and performance drops. The company behind the copy protection software (Irdeto) has denied the former two.

Denuvo seems to have been recently excised from the PC port of Resident Evil 2, as reported by DSO Gaming. It is no longer mentioned on the Steam store page, and SteamDB‘s file history confirms that Denuvo and the “5 different PC within a day machine activation limit” have been removed. This is good news for players who hesitated to pick up Resident Evil 2 due to Denuvo being part of the package.
