Analogue Pocket Announced, Plays Game Boy Color Carts and More

Analogue have announced the Analogue Pocket, a device capable of playing Game Boy cartridges and more retro hand-held consoles.

The company specializes in modern video game consoles capable of running retro games from their original cartridges, usually multiple different consoles of a similar generations.

The Analogue Pocket will continue this trend. While it can play Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance cartridges, adapters (sold separately) also allow it to play Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Atari Lynx, and other unspecified cartridges.

The system also avoids using any emulation. However, it does come with a second dedicated FPGA (field-programmable gate array) for their own modifications. It also comes with Nanoloop, a program allowing users to create their own chiptunes. You can hear that in work here.

With a 3.5″, 615 ppi, LCD screen at 1660×1440 resolution, it may seem like overkill. But utilizing a dock akin to a Nintendo Switch, the system can also output to a TV. In this mode you can synch wireless or use USB controllers.

The Analogue Pocket launches in 2020 for $199.
