It may not be a new follow-up to the beloved series, but we’ve learned Tenchi Muyo! is getting a live theater adaptation.
The new theater adaptation is based on Tenchi Muyo! Ryo-Ohki, the six-episode OVA that started the entire series back in 1992. The play will follow the first season of AIC and Masaki Kajishima’s (梶島 正樹) series.
The show will run from July 17th to the 21st, at Shinjuku Village LIVE (新宿村LIVE) in Tokyo’s Shinjuku ward. Regular seating costs 6,800 yen (roughly $63) and premium seating (front three rows, includes a mini photo book that is not for sale) costs 7,800 yen (roughly $72).
After the first OVA in the 90’s, Tenchi Muyo! went on to span lots of media, like manga, video games, radio drama, novels, and more. The most recent anime was the OVA’s fourth season, which concluded back in 2017.
If you’re living in Japan and want to get tickets, make sure to reserve them via the show’s official website. View more information for the show here.
