While Shenmue III has been receiving its fair share of criticism regarding the Epic Store Exclusivity controversy, original Kickstarter backers of the game have recently discovered another issue – they’re not eligible for the pre-order bonuses promised recently.
Backers of the game on Kickstarter will not be eligible for the pre-order bonus content, some of which includes the Season Pass, due to the fact that retail / regular sales of the game are not affiliated with the crowdfunding campaign – news confirmed via a backer comment on their latest Kickstarter Update.
“Standard and deluxe versions released through retail sales are not affiliated with the crowdfunding campaign, so will not be included with backer pledges, however, they will be available for sale separately. Kickstarter Backers will receive the Kickstarter version, Slacker Backers will receive the Slacker Backer version. Both have unique content respective to their versions not available in the retail versions. A season pass is not included,” the response noted.
Many backers upset with the one-year exclusivity to the Epic Games Store were hoping the above update would include info for backer refunds, which Ys Net is promising to fulfill.
Shenmue III is launching for Windows PC and PlayStation 4 on November 19th.
