Rage 2 Update for PC Removes Denuvo

Bethesda have announced they have removed Denuvo from their latest title Rage 2.

The notes for the latest PC hotfix states one of its features is the removal of Denuvo, along with the note “we noticed a few requests.” The use of italics suggests a hint of understatement.

For those unfamiliar Denuvo is a form of DRM (Digital Rights Management), criticized for its allegations of effectiveness. These include a constant and uninterrupted online connection even on single-player games, and allegations of causing severe performance inhibition.

There have even been accusations and rumors of the anti-piracy measure being “cracked” (allowing the once-protected software to be copied and distributed) mere days after or even before the game’s release

The reputation and questionable effectiveness of Denuvo has resulted in several PC titles removing it from their game’s entirely. Including Mutant Year Zero: Road to Eden, Hitman 2, Yakuza Kiwami and Sonic Mania. We will keep you posted if the conditions of any games add or remove Denuvo.

Rage 2 is out now on Windows PC (via Bethesda and Steam), PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here.
