Indie game YIIK: A Postmodern RPG has had its share of criticisms, however the latest report points to the game literally plagiarizing a popular Japanese author.

The game appears to directly plagiarize (via Reddit), line by line, Haruki Murakami’s 2004 novel After Dark.

The main creative force behind the game, Andrew Allanson, had previously appeared on a podcast where he talked up the reception of the game.

While he was mostly noted for criticizing gamers for not liking the game and its unlikable protagonist (which is supposedly based on himself), he also talked up inspirations for the game.

Allanson was trying to make “the video game version of a Chuck Palahniuk novel, or a Haruki Murakami novel.” Perhaps he mimicked the source material too much and forgot he left those bits in.
