New Minecraft Update Quietly Removes Mentions of Notch, Its Creator

A new update for Minecraft has quietly removed all mentions of its creator, Markus “Notch” Persson.

Despite his sole role in the actual creation of the hit sandbox game prior to it being sold to Microsoft, Notch was synonymous with the game and its development. Now, the 19w13a snapshot has removed all mentions or nods to the creator.

Previously, messages like “The Work of Notch!” and “Made by Notch!” would randomly display at the game’s splash screen. They no longer display in the latest build of the game.

Despite the removal of Notch from the in-game messaging, he is still listed as the game’s creator in its credits.
