Todd Howard: Cross-Platform Play Isn’t Happening for Fallout 76, Sony is to Blame

While the dream of playing an online game with gamers on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One is the dream of some and the nightmare of others, more evidence is surfacing that the reason full cross-platform is that Sony isn’t letting it happen.

A new interview with Bethesda boss and holy savior Todd Howard and German site GameStar has the Bethesda veteran pointing to Sony Interactive Entertainment not letting full cross-platform play happen with the upcoming Fallout 76.

Howard said that they actually pursued cross-play for the game, to enable players to play together regardless of platform of choice. He noted that Sony just isn’t “as helpful as everyone would like,” thus making it impossible to achieve right now.

The recent Fortnite debacle mirrors the hard-line stance that Sony has taken against enabling full cross-play between Sony platforms and Xbox, or even the Nintendo Switch.

Fallout 76 is launching on November 14th across Windows PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
