We’ve learned (via Famitsu) an entirely new entry in the Gungrave series is now in development for PlayStation 4.
The new game is titled Gungrave G.O.R.E., and its being likened to a true sequel to the series, and it takes place after Grave achieved peace and rest in the events of the original story. The series’ next game, Gungrave VR, is actually a prequel leading up to the events of Gungrave G.O.R.E. and is now available in Japan.
Iggymob business director Kay Kim added that a “revival” of the series will start with Gungrave VR, leading up to Gungrave G.O.R.E., and that the overall size of development is hard to pinpoint right now. He noted that with G.O.R.E. they want to create a larger scale and level of overall quality than with Gungrave VR, so they’re using Unreal Engine.
The team is focusing on matching the scale and production level of larger games, and that the important thing is delivering a game that will have the approval and favorability of longtime fans of the series. Kim noted that they want to keep furthering their efforts and pursuit of a true follow-up in the Gungrave universe.
While Gungrave VR is now available in Japan via the PlayStation Store, a western release is set for sometime early next year. A release window for Gungrave G.O.R.E. wasn’t announced.
