Remember that live-action Detective Pikachu movie that’s actually happening? The production behind the flick has landed its star, and it’s probably the last person you’d expect – Ryan Reynolds.
The actor is joining Justice Smith, who is appearing in the upcoming Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, alongside Kathryn Newton from Big Little Lies.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying the Deadpool star will be the main event in the upcoming movie that stars Pikachu. Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) is directing, and shooting is set to begin in the middle of January 2018 in London.
Here’s the kicker – Reynolds is starring as Pikachu in the movie. The story follows Justice Smith, whose father is kidnapped, forcing him to team up with Pikachu to find him. Newton is a “sassy” journalist that aids them on their quest.
Sources close to the project say the role of Pikachu is being done in motion capture.
Reynolds’ other upcoming movie, Deadpool 2, is set top premiere on June 1st of next year.
