Hey everyone – this is Brandon, the founder and Editor-in-Chief at Niche Gamer. I’m not sure if you saw the post I made on our social media a few days ago but we’re rolling back our previously instituted commenting rules and restrictions. We made a mistake, and I wanted to formally apologize to you all.
Niche Gamer is a site and community that I started with the hope of mimicking the old days of the internet, where anything goes.
Some people don’t like that, but ultimately I really don’t care. I just want you guys to have fun and to have a community where you don’t have to fear saying the wrong thing or for deliberately saying the wrong thing. I really don’t care, I’m not your parent and I’m just happy you guys keep checking out our website.
So, beginning now: we’re adopting our original “hands off” community policy on both the site and our forums.
You don’t have to worry about being banned for the wrong words. Yes, this means we usually only step in with regards to piracy or death threats/actual threats. Otherwise we really don’t care. We ❤ you. We also unbanned Smug, and a few other users that were notorious in our community.
I wanted to make a disclaimer that piracy is still off limits (no direct links, talking about it is OK – see our full TOS here), and we still have the ability to ban someone that is being a gigantic super turd but again – I really don’t care and it would take a monumental amount of annoyance to get that far. Pornography is also off limits, but we’re exploring options for you to post that stuff.
Expect a new Patreon update at the beginning of next month where we address this again, talk up changes with staff, the new direction of the site, and the new features you should be expecting, finally. Seriously, thank you guys for continuing your support of the site – even if it’s just visiting it every day to check out new stuff.
The more you support us, the more fun stuff we can do for you and the more we can give back to the community we’ve built together. If you haven’t backed us on Patreon – check us out! It’s optional but anything helps us immensely. We also accept one-time donations via our PayPal. Again, thank you guys – we’re nothing without you.
