Square Enix to Make New DLC for Final Fantasy XV in 2018

Square Enix has announced that post-launch content for Final Fantasy XV is going to continue into next year.

The news comes from the latest Active Time Report live stream at this year’s Tokyo Game Show (via Games Jouhou), where game director Hajime Tabata confirmed the development team decided to continue working on the game through the new year.

He noted there was high demand from players that want the game’s story to continue and be further expanded upon. The upcoming “Episode Ignis” expansion was supposed to be the final piece of DLC.

Tabata also noted that the theme of this new content is to delve more into parts of the main story that didn’t have enough context or details, and to resolve those stories. He said they’re exploring other characters to showcase through new episodes, but he wants to make sure they’re able to establish a proper foundation of the game world, otherwise they won’t be able to fully flesh out the characters’ story.

It makes sense that Square Enix is looking to continually add new content to one of their key titles, as their recent annual report has the company reportedly shifting focus on developing pure single player games to instead focus on multiplayer experiences, or games as a service.

Final Fantasy XV is currently available for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you should check out our written and video review for the game here.
