SNK is Developing “Lots of New Fighting Games,” Talks Up The King of Fighters XIV and Future of Franchise

We’ve learned that SNK Corporation is making a true return to form – they’ve got lots of new fighting games in development.

“We’re developing lots of new fighting games that we can not announce yet, but we’d like you to stay tuned,” The King of Fighters XIV producer Yasuyki Oda revealed in an interview with IGN Latin America.

Despite the fact that Oda didn’t confirm what titles they’re working on, earlier in the interview he revealed they’re “always considering” making sequels to iconic franchises like Fatal Fury or Art of Fighting. However, he says the problem is that greenlighting these projects “requires the company to approve it, we have to convince many people, which is very difficult, but of course it is something that We would like to do (laugh).”

Oda also noted that there are currently no plans on doing an enhanced version of The King of Fighters XIII, which saw a release on PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360.

In regards to further content for The King of Fighters XIV, Oda said “We are still not sure if we will have more DLCs or patches, but when we released new characters in April, the fans’ reception was very good, so if we were to get extra content, rather than new costumes, we would like them to be new characters, Because it’s what fans like the most.”

When remarking on the future of The King of Fighters series in the form of The King of Fighters XV or a new version for XIV, Oda said they “can not confirm or deny either of these two possibilities, but we are convinced that KOF XV will be a reality. At the moment we are not sure if there will be a new patch for the XIV, but it is definitely a possibility.”

The King of Fighters XIV is currently available for PC and PlayStation 4. In case you missed it, you can find our review for The King of Fighters XIV here (we highly recommend it!).
