Age of Empires II and III Definitive Editions Announced

Microsoft Studios has announced definitive editions for both Age of Empires II and Age of Empires III for Windows PC.

For those not following the high-definition remasters that are all the rage now, this means both games will get new releases with high-definition visuals, balancing tweaks, and a multitude of new features coupled with new content to boot. Considering the original game’s Definitive Edition is a Windows 10-only release, we’re assuming these two are the same.

Further details weren’t confirmed. The developer also confirmed the release date for Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, which is set for this October, alongside some entirely new features coming to the venerated strategy game. Despite the fact that HD releases for all these games are currently available, these are essentially completely redone in HD, versus the old assets in HD.

In related news, Microsoft Studios also revealed Age of Empires IV, an entirely new sequel in the long-running strategy game franchise. You can read more about that here.
