What’s in the Box – Sonic Mania Collector’s Edition Unboxing

This is What’s in the Box? In this video series, we regularly unbox new games and things, so let us know if there’s something you want us to check out!

Hey guys – I’m Brandon Orselli, the founder and editor-in-chief of Niche Gamer. I’ve got a nerdboner for Sonic Mania, so much so that I got the big collector’s edition and did an unboxing video for you all.

Featured above, you can view my unboxing video – this is literally the first time I’ve opened the thing. Expect my review in the coming days – I’m so close to having it finished!

Sonic Mania is now available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The PC version was recently delayed to August 29th.

When I got my copy of the LE today I was pretty surprised just how big the box and the Sonic statue were. The little metal card thing was cool, but it’s pretty pointless.I guess they just weren’t sure what else to put in the box? And the mock Genesis cartridge with the ring was PRETTY nice, I keep it on my desk now with my amiibos and other figures.

Honestly the box should have had a steelbook case and a disc copy of the game. For £80 I’d expect the box to at least have a physical copy of the game in it. Especially when calling it a “Collector’s edition”. Digital collectables aren’t the same :(

£80 for this is way too much for me, especially since it doesn’t even come with a disc copy of the game.

A special edition of a game without a physical copy of the game itself does seem strange.

I’m overall really happy with it but do still wish it had a physical copy

I mostly only jumped at it for my pure love for Sonic, but with the Amazon Prime discount it was like $40? The game is $20 so the statue/etc is basically $20.. it feels like a good deal

If only this had a physical copy, I’d have been all over this. I do wish I had that statue though.

sonic statue and ring looks cool, but tbh I’d rather pay that price for the gray cat in the background.

I would’ve got this edition with no second thought if only it had a physical copy in it. Why go through all that trouble of creating related loot, when the most important component is missing?
