Odyssey looks like it needs a lot of work to go from a 3D platformer to a 3D platformer that’s “fun.” Good thing it’s got a few months yet.

Gotta love how eager certain people are to add exclusivity logos to mockups and tentative boxarts:

-Ace Combat 7 (multiplatform, never claimed to be exclusive)
-Ys VIII: Lala of Dana (never claimed to be exclusive, Jap boxes have no excl. logos)
-Kingdom Hearts III (also on Xbox)
    -FFVII Remake (timed exclusive)
-Gundam Versus (never claimed to be exclusive, multiplatform/PC reveal coming right up)
    -Valkyria Revolution (also on Xbox)
-Nioh (never had the logo; PC reveal inbound)

But then how will I play the even better shared exclusives we get from Xbox, like Killer Instinct, Quantum Break, Ori and the Blind Forest, or Rivals of Aether?

Or how will I play Rocket League cross-platform with Xbox and Switch folk at the same time?

What if I want to play great games like Revengeance or Bayonetta, which can’t be found on current consoles anymore? Or the majority of Japanese games this gen, which were never released on console in the first place?

    >Or how will I play Rocket League cross-platform with Xbox and Switch folk at the same time?

come on now, let’s not go that far, after all, Sony needs to protect the kids from being able to play with other console users.

This would make me inclined to buy a PS4 if more than four games on the list appealed to me.

I’d stray away from claiming PC ports are incoming when there’s very little to back them up. Like Nioh coming to PC when it was published by Sony. You’ll get Bloodbourne on PC before that game.

And I say this as a PC/PS4 Gamer. The “exclusive” mock ups are really more of a collection of games that show you don’t need an Xbox One.

It looks like there’s only about 51 Switch games across all regions, so Cody has a pretty impressive collection right there, shame it’s imaginary.

Exclusivity logos haven’t failed me in prediction this shit so far, and I’ll goddamn stand by them as well.

Nioh was already long done as well by the time Sony got signed on as publisher, which was more like the timed exclusive marketing deal we’re all familiar with + additional handling the physical stuff for a publisher (Tecmo Koei) that can’t afford to spend a fortune establishing a new franchise all on its own.

The fact that Sony itself published in the West, but it didn’t get an exclusivity logo in either region says it all.

Nioh was published by Sony worldwide outside of Japan bro. You may be reading into things a little too much with the scenario you’ve made up in your head. Sony isn’t Microsoft or Sega. You don’t see Sony published games jump to PC. By your logic we should have seen Demon’s Souls, Bloodbourne, and all of Level-5’s Sony exclusive catalog on PC a looooooong time ago. Nioh isn’t coming to PC. When you publish the game you have control of where it goes. Period.

“Nioh was published by Sony worldwide outside of Japan bro.”

Exactly; KT did release it in Nippon themselves, so the rights to the game are not actually owned by Sony. As logic would dicate, with them only getting publishing rights in the West months before launch. That’s the “game done, polishing now” phase, and no sane company would sell full lifetime exclusivity to their product at that point.

Or rather than actually selling timed exclusivity for money, they possibly just traded it against Sony taking marketing + publishing costs on them.

The difference with Bloodborne is that was Sony funded from the start, so they’ll retain full control over where that goes no matter what. Demon’s Souls and those Level-5 cooperations, while ancient, fall under the same rule. (L5+Bamco joint Ni no Kuni 1, however, doesn’t and was exclusive merely by virtue of Japan not quite having taken off on PC yet at the time)

Anyhow, I know you’re pretty reasonable, so hopefully you’re willing to wait for things to turn out like I’m expecting; which is Sony having a full year of exclusivity at the most here.

Also, it’s not really “making up scenarios in my head” as much as it is autistically “researching” all potential exclusivity scenarios this generation, as there are much clearer hints to what will and what won’t make it over nowadays. Subtle hints that differ from publisher to publisher, whether in website listings or whether they’ll reveal games during their own E3 show rather than having Sony do it (Setsuna and Automata being good examples of the latter).

And one thing I can say with absolute certainty, is that Sony would absolutely yell it off the rooftops if they did get Nioh as a full exclusive; they most certainly wouldn’t allow it to ship without an “Only on Playstation” printed on the sleeve.

Only potential scenario I’m not familiar yet, however, is lack of a logo in the US but still having one in European territories, which started with Star Ocean almost a year ago, so haven’t been able to figure that out yet. Maybe at the one year mark for that as well…

I think the only kind of games this website shouldn’t post are AAA garbage like CoD/Battlefield, AAA movie games and sports games.
