Koei Tecmo has announced a western release for Gust’s beautiful, modern-day RPG titled Blue Reflection.
The modern heroine-focused RPG will launch on September 26th in North America and September 29th in Europe, on both PC and PlayStation 4. It’s worth pointing out the game’s PS Vita version was dropped in favor of PC.
If you pre-order the game via participating retailers, you’ll get some digital goodies, including: the School Swimsuit and Rorona style costumes – the latter being the outfit of Rorolina Frixell from Atelier Rorona – and a “FreeSpace!” theme to change the look of their social networking app, a key in-game feature used to stay in touch with companions outside of school. If you purchase the game on PlayStation 4, you’ll get an exclusive “original custom theme.”
Here’s a rundown on the game, via Koei Tecmo:
Blue Reflection takes place at Hoshinomiya Girls’ High School, where players assume the role of student Hinako Shirai. When Hinako’s ballet career comes to an end after a tragic accident, she closes her heart off from the rest of the world. However, her life changes when she meets her new best friends, the magical Shijou twins – Yuzu, who is adored by her classmates for her cheerful and warm personality, and Lime, who is more logical and selfish.
The twin sisters bestow Hinako with the power of a Reflector, a champion who can manipulate a mysterious parallel dimension known as The Common. Hinako can freely move and shape this mystical realm’s beauty with her imagination, but she soon understands the very real perils that await her and her friends. As Hinako learns to treasure her companions and creates new bonds with those around her, she gains new strength to help her fight in The Common.

Big fucking mistake.

June 6, 2017 at 9:20 amI really really like the art and artstyle for this. I probably won’t pick this up day 1, my budget this year is tight already. But I will definitely get it sometime in the future.

June 6, 2017 at 9:23 amEh. I’d much rather play an RPG like this on the big screen versus a portable. Who doesn’t have a PS4 at this point?

We can pretty much conclude that western companies want the vita to die out completely.

June 6, 2017 at 10:06 amBummer about the Vita version but it would prolly have been digital only had they brought it over so i can life with this.
DizzyGear
June 6, 2017 at 10:12 amOr sadly. its just not worth it anymore at this point.
Atelier has a loyal following so those games will sell but this is a new niche IP which will prolly sell 10 copies on Vita since it would be digital only with a 49 dollar price tag had they brought over the Vita version.

June 6, 2017 at 10:13 amHello? Vita’s been dead for years, where have you been?

June 6, 2017 at 10:13 amWhy would i buy a PS4 if all the games i wanna play have a superior version on the PC?

June 6, 2017 at 10:13 amYes!! Now all we need is School-Girl Zombie Hunter.

June 6, 2017 at 10:24 amBloodborne, Atelier series, The Last Guardian, Nioh, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted 4 (plus collection if you want it), Valkyria Chronicles Remastered (plus upcoming), Yakuza 0, Diva Future Tone, etc

June 6, 2017 at 10:31 amAtelier is now trickling to PC. SEGA might be releasing VC to PC again
But you forgot Persona 5.
DizzyGear
June 6, 2017 at 10:33 amAtelier: Have Vita versions and Sohpie has a PC version
Last Guardian: Lost interest in that game about 5 years ago.
Nioh: Wont stay exclusive.
Rachet and Clank: The “remake” is an insult to the original.
Uncharted: Meh
Varkyria Chronicles: PC version is better since it has some much needed balancing mods.
Yakuza games are matter of time before they’ll come to the PC.
Future Tone: Meh

June 6, 2017 at 10:39 amMy only concern is if they’re going to censor stuff and how are they going to localize stuff.

June 6, 2017 at 10:50 amI’m still skeptical about Gust/PC, after the disappointing ports of Sophie and Firis.

June 6, 2017 at 10:55 amI want to know how that DLC will play out.

June 6, 2017 at 11:12 amI thought the Atelier games on PC had good reviews on Steam?

June 6, 2017 at 11:25 amThere aren’t many magical girl RPGs made anymore. I’d get this if it comes uncensored.
totenglocke
June 6, 2017 at 11:49 amProbably because they’re going to start making games for Switch as it’s the new popular handheld in Japan.

June 6, 2017 at 12:25 pmwhile they where mostly fixed trough patches, by the time Sophie was “finished” being fixed, most people had already finished Firis, and there is still some content missing from Sophie IIRC.
BaronKrause
June 6, 2017 at 12:38 pmNo idea why they do this, if the localization is already getting done, it is pretty much impossible to do so bad that it wouldnt still turn a profit since the only costs that need to be recouped is that of applying the existing translation to this version. It might have to be digital only but not releasing it at all just doesn’t make sense in these situations.
BaronKrause
June 6, 2017 at 12:39 pmWell they already announced the swimsuit DLC as a preorder bonus, so uncensored seems likely.

June 6, 2017 at 1:03 pmYes! This is all I needed to hear. I watched someone play it a bit on PSN and everything about it and the music, combat, and graphics all were amazing.
Richard
June 6, 2017 at 1:29 pmWell, both games are playable on PC, but there a lot of technical issues that were never patched, like broken shadow rendering, missing effects (HBAO, lighting, bloom) and low resolution 2D assets.

June 6, 2017 at 1:50 pmSad state of affairs for the Vita version.
Goes to show that the Vita really is on its death bed in the West though. There’s just simply more money to be made in PS4/PC ports than giving the Vita a release at all seems like. This wouldn’t be the case if Sony hadn’t fucked up every single thing they did when marketing the Vita though, on top of the proprietary memory prices. The Vita deserved better than this. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a8d6613a9d70914030e1e9b84f52f2cd16296f9c48089b4a633588f87b9860f2.jpg

June 6, 2017 at 3:08 pmThe PS3 Persona 5 version runs like ass tho. Screen tearing literally all over the place for some reason that Aluts never bothered to fix and constant drops below 30fps, plus the obvious longer loading and saving times.
Just saying, yeah, the PS3 version as an option is there, but it’s a really shitty option.

June 6, 2017 at 3:16 pmOf course the vita version would be dropped as vita is dead. Glad that for now on all Gust games are coming to PC.

June 6, 2017 at 3:17 pmBut vita is already dead.

June 6, 2017 at 3:17 pmBecause vita is not profitable.

June 6, 2017 at 4:21 pmLocalisation is done directly by KTGust and they don’t usually censor. They know their audience.

June 6, 2017 at 5:07 pmI don’t see what’s the problem with the Vita version canceled, Vita owners can still play the game in their Vitas via Remote Play, It might look like a Youtube video, but any problem present in the Vita version (Like FPS drops, long loading screens, etc) might be corrected in the PS4 version

June 7, 2017 at 9:27 amWrong, in the west, the Vita and PS4 market is closely tied in, if one platform gets a decent exclusive, it will sell well, but if its out on both consoles, the PS4 will greatly outsell the Vita version, devs have become aware of this and find PC more profitable.
That doesnt mean the Vita will die, it will either get its own exclusives or it wont get a port, its a niche console after all, companies are well aware of this.
And even with that, the Vita still gets more yearly releases than Xbox, 3DS and WiiU combined.
The only console that is truly dead is the WiiU, and I belive the 3DS will die within 1 year or 2 at most. The Vita will be weaker due to the PC gaining ground, but it will keep its relevance for some more years.
