Shipments and Digital Sales for NieR: Automata Top One Million

Square Enix has announced an exciting milestone – both shipments and digital sales for NieR: Automata have surpassed one million units.

That new milestone naturally includes worldwide shipments and sales.

NieR: Automata first launched for PlayStation 4 in Japan on February 23rd, followed by March 7th in North America and March 10th in Europe, with a PC release later on March 17th.

Expect our thorough written and video review for the game in the coming days.

That’s probably more sales than every other Yoko Taro game put together. Good to see him get some well deserved recognition.

The sales will still a small bump once the JP/SEA region gets the game on Steam too.

Yes, technically we could buy ROW Steam keys from reputable sites and add the game in Steam, but a majority of players here would rather wait until the game is officially available for a potentially cheaper price in our region than buy a more expensive ROW key.

I just really hope the people buying the game actually bother to play to the end and don’t think one of the various endings was the actual, definitive ‘end and stop. There is a purpose to full completion in this game, but the first few endings keep making people think the game is only a handful of hours long.

I didn’t say Steam doesn’t count but I cannot give it all the credits for the digital sales, if I based myself on steamspy (it’s not reliable) the games sold 220k units on steam which is good score but most of the sales are on PS4.

Nioh reached 1 millions both physical and digital without selling on PC (whose the portage will potentially come soon because Tecmo didn’t bother with “the only on playstation” on the physical box this time)

Wouldn’t have sold. Japanese games from niche companies on Xbox consoles don’t sell. They didn’t want to do what Nintendo did and fund a game that won’t help them gain hardware sales.

Nioh was hyped for like 13 years though. Neir Automata was announced in 2015. Its actually quite impressive for Neir Automata to sell this munch in general considering its predecessor did much worse in terms of sales. Nioh had a bigger spotlight and reminded people of Dark Souls mixed with Onimusha.

I bought both, both are great games.

Three hours i believe. But that’s nothing compared to fighting Hegel, that boss is a nightmare on this mode.

All l can say for advice is that the Taunt chip is your best friend because of the increased damage and considering everything kills you in one hit – there’s no risk to use it. Shockwave chip and pod-fire spamming helps too if you want to cheese your way through common enemies.

This region lock irks me. I’ve been a fan of the first Nier, and now I see it’s exploded in popularity, even going mainstream with normalfags, and I’m locked out of the hype train due to location.

Still to see that it sold almost as much as on PlayStation just on PC alone shows that selling it on steam is very profitable.

A lot of that is due to Nintendo wanting to keep the same kind of image they had in the 90s. Been to afraid to localize a lot of stuff due to that. A lot of Japanese devs who have sexualized characters like Bayonetta just avoid them for a lot of titles. A huge chunk of it is them getting blow the fuck out by the PS1 when they decided to not go with CDs over cartridges. They effectively lost the most of the JRPG genre as a result of that alone.

Niche games seem to do way better with the PS brand over other platforms. Demon’s Souls only got ported due to massive word of mouth. Games like Shadow of the Colossus sold well all things considered too. I think a game like Gotcha Force would have sold better not being a GameCube exclusive.

Then please elaborate what these games have in common other than a post-apocalyptic setting and some open world mechanics for us wise one.
