The developers behind CEMU, a Nintendo Wii U-focused emulator, are set to release a big update for their program this month.

They’re readying version 1.7.4 for a public release on April 9th, following their Patreon backer-only release on April 2nd.

A few weeks ago, the emulator was running The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at a rather unplayable 15FPS, however the new release is seeing impressively stable performance at roughly 30FPS.

Alongside the visual improvement is the typical bug squashing, as noticeable issues with physics were also present. Here’s some gameplay of the current build running The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The CEMU team is bringing in just over $35,000 on Patreon now, as they had a noticeable surge after they posted their progress a few weeks ago.

While emulation is mostly a legal gray area at best, Nintendo hasn’t made advances on the CEMU team – yet. Still, the more advances in emulating the game for PC, the more possibilities we’ll see – possibly even modding.
