Sega has announced a delay for Sonic Mania.
The game will forgo its planned spring 2017 release for one sometime this summer, across PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.
Sega claims the game needs a bit more time in the oven to meet their own expectations.
Featured above, Sega debuted a new Classic Zone for the game, the “Flying Battery Zone” from Sonic & Knuckles.

March 17, 2017 at 11:29 amI think this is the first time they showed a playable Knuckles. Shame that it’s delayed, but maybe we can get a physical edition out of that.

March 17, 2017 at 1:18 pmI’m 100% okay with this, it’s good to see Sega not just rushing Sonic games out the door anymore.

March 17, 2017 at 1:32 pmAaron Webber says he’s vouching for it so hopefully he can get something done, they already have some pretty nice artwork ready for it. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/067fdefd0756ee0ba5371b4bf05a908bf6153437b89eedd8f997270b5bf285fa.jpg

March 17, 2017 at 2:22 pmHoly fuck those blue skies are gorgeous. They need to ditch the sprite rotation on slopes it mangles the sprites, I don’t see the point of doing that over making angled sprites other than because doing this was the trendy thing for fan games to do.

March 17, 2017 at 6:44 pmI’m a little disappointed that it’s delayed but that’s entirely just because this has genuinely been my most anticipated game since it was first announced. If the delay means it can be even better than I can absolutely wait a few more months.

March 18, 2017 at 9:25 amI wonder if they would give the option to upgrade the preorder.
I havent even preordered anything, but if they gave an actual cart instead of the code I would certainly consider it.

March 18, 2017 at 2:20 pmThey can take as long as they want. I just want a good game at the end of the time. The Sonic Cycle must be defeated for good.

March 18, 2017 at 4:03 pmI more or less expected a delay, not a big deal if it means the product is high quality.

March 19, 2017 at 4:38 pmI would say Rise of Lyric too, but that game would still be trash even if it wasn’t rushed and was released on consoles that could actually run it’s engine properly. At it’s core it’s just another uninspired beat ’em up platformer meant to tie in with a cartoon, ’06 at least had some ambition behind it.
