    NIS America has announced a western release for Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

    The Nihon Falcom-developed RPG will release across PC, PS4, and PS Vita in fall of this year. The game will have Japanese audio with English and French subtitles.

    A limited edition for the game is available over on the NIS America store, for $99.99 on PS4 and $79.99 on PS Vita. It includes: a copy of Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA, “The Codex of Adol Christin: Periplus of the Goethe Sea Writing Materials” Hardcover Book, a softcover art book, an original soundtrack, Acrylic Bookends, a Cloth Poster (33″ x 40”), a Steelbook® Collector’s Case, and a Collector’s Box.

    Here’s a rundown on the game, via NIS America:

    Ys returns with a brand new adventure for the first time in 8 years! Adol awakens shipwrecked and stranded on a cursed island. There, he and the other shipwrecked passengers he rescues form a village to challenge fearsome beasts and mysterious ruins on the isolated island. Amidst this, Adol begins to dream of a mysterious blue-haired maiden living in a unknown world.

    Join Adol as he unravels the riddle of the cursed isle and the bluehaired maiden Dana in Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana.

      You’re aware they do more than just Senran Kagura and Ys aren’t you? Especially now that Marvelous no longer deals with Natsume.

      There’s also not much you’re going to do about being known as “the titty company” with games like Senran, because no matter how much effort they put in that’s all some people are going to see.

      I do. But, I’m also incredibly irritated at them by their sloppy handling of the Senran Kagura franchise ever since people started calling them the “the titty company”.
      Especially so with them giving fuck all towards SK, despite it basically being their best seller, and instead deciding to plug their Twitter Account runner’s fucking cats instead of advertising their game.

      I’m not necessarily ‘happy’ that Ys is getting the short end of the stick, but I’ll gladly support it if it means XSeed might have to stop and take a fucking look at how they can stop shitting the bed and pissing off customers when compared to Marvelous EU.

      Awesome news! Nice to see more Falcom games on PC again. NISA is pretty good about doing good ports, so I’m hopeful. Hopefully their localization will be all right. They tend to be shaky on that end.

      I’ll readily admit that this is pure pettiness, through and through. Don’t get me wrong, either; I am disappointed that Ys 8’s gonna get fuckin’ MEME’d on. Hard.

      I’m just very, very tired of XSeed putting more effort in to localizing Falcom games than games made by their parent company (Marvelous) and having to get pretty much 90% of all news from Marvelous EU. While Xseed posts about cats and all the cool dudes in ‘totally not Harvest Moon’. All the while Marvy EU puts effort in to the physical releases for SK, and Xseed just prints some playing cards, slaps them in a box, and charges a surplus on it before shipping it out the door.

      I’d rather NISA go extinct for everything other than the shit NIS pumps out, and sometimes I’d even prefer them to stop doing that.

      More than likely, you just answered your own question. PC. I mean, it’s the same with Tokyo Xanadu, why Aksys? And that’s probably because they can crank out a PC port, much like NISA is coming up with a PC port of Ys VIII~.

      Neither of those games have any kind of PC version available, not even one of those obscure Chinese PC ports. So these PC versions are probably made by the publishers themselves~.

      NISA is guilty until proven innocent at this point. I’m not a Ys guy, so personally this isn’t a big deal to me, but I feel bad for everyone that was looking forward to this. I know there’s games that were killed dead in the water to me just because NISA was announced as the localizer in the past.

      It was more of a rhetorical question to hammer in that it is a “fuck nisa and their meme garbage humor and bugs” type of post, not “why xseed didn’t got this even though they probably don’t have enough manpower to port this thing to PC” one. I would be happy/content with probably any other publisher that makes japanese games appear on western market, i don’t have a fanboy boner for particular publisher, i am just scared that this game is gonna be a victim of their horrendous localization. Because i don’t think there is too much to censor.

      While I am getting this game (in fact, I already preordered the PSV LE) in order to support Falcom, I’m not really thrilled about somebody other than XSEED handling a Falcom game. It’s like you are used to a certain style and all of a sudden you see it go elsewhere; that said, I had a feeling things would be like this back when Tokyo Xanadu got taken by Aksys. Hopefully, NISA’s localization will be more on par with their quality on Danganronpa than some of their more questionable works~.

      Xseed does have expertise in the PC field though. From what i read getting the ancient PC version of TiTS 2nd running on a modern OS with the PSP exclusive features and translation grafted in was no easy feat.

      It’s actually great until you consider that NISA is the one localizing it. So dual audio but most likely the game will be needlessly censored and/or dialogue changed because of sensibilities or because it’s “funnier” to do it their way.

      Also technical issues like console crashing, overheating, game-breaking bugs, etc.

      While it’s not nice to see XSEED losing publishing rights, it’s a business first and foremost. I’m guessing the whole PC version has a lot to do with this, neither Tokyo Xanadu nor Ys VIII have PC versions, not even Chinese ones yet Aksys and NISA are bringing the games over with that added bonus: PC version~.

      XSEED and Falcom had a deal for just five games or so, everything else was up for grabs by whoever puts in the money and whatnot. Like I said, it’s a business, I don’t think you can really say Falcom is backstabbing XSEED if XSEED just can’t keep up~.

      Xseed pretty much single handedly build up the Y’s brandname in the west with both consoles and their enhanced English PC versions.
      So yeah, i see it as a backstabbing that they screwed Xseed out of Y’s VIII in favor of a company that hasn’t worked on a single goddamn Falcom game with a reputation for questionable quality.

      And besides NISA doesn’t even do their PC ports in house but outsources them.

      It’s a business. It doesn’t matter if XSEED helped or not, not to mention it could be argued that PC gamers knew about Ys long before XSEED came into the picture. Fan translations for Eternal, Felghana and AoN existed because people craved to play those games. I see a lot of people being overly emotional about this, it’s a shame for XSEED but it’s a business, so it really doesn’t matter if NISA outsources PC ports or not, what matters is that they can provide it. That Falcom cares about that audience is actually good~.

      If there’s one thing to be worried about is quality of localization. I think we all hope NISA won’t fuck up. But other than that, people are just being too emotional. There’s no backstabbing, it’s just business~.

      Well can you blame people being emotional about this? If you followed Xseed’s translation blog you know how passionate they are about Falcoms games and that passion showed in the end products. Especially the enhanced PC versions.

      NISA on the other hand is best known these days for their crap translation, censorship, bugs, greedy DLC schemes and not giving a fuck about their audience.

      IMO I think this is a bad business decision. For one it probably soured the relation with Xseed/Marvelous and if NISA fucks up with a bad localization and/or censorship the fingers will point to Falcom as well for handing the game to NISA.

      I’m pretty sure they’ll announce SK Peach Beach sooner or later.

      The only thing i’m salty about is they skipped Uppers and Net High because they are Vita exclusive.

      Danganronpa isn’t free of their “quality” at all so I have no faith in that. Their overall approach to translation and localisation is fucking terrible and in many cases pretty disrespectful to the source material and they’d need to completely refresh their localisation team to fix that.

      XSeed’s passion is appreciated but the “muh censorship” argument isn’t a good enough one to hate NISA as much as people do.

      Especially when the typical reasons to hate on them aren’t consistent in every game.

      The “greedy DLC schemes” haven’t hit many of the PC ports. Not Disgeaea, not Phantom Brave, not Criminal Girls, etc.

      NISA has fucked some stuff up but they’ve also become one of those companies people hate for the sake of hating. It makes the people who hate on them look more overly butthurt than them looking actually bad as a company at this point.

      NISA offered a faster release and PC Port at a cheaper price probably, the price will be paid by the consumer with YS getting a terrible translation, censorship, cut content/text, bugs, glitches and hell knows what. FALCOM wanted fast money and NISA abide to it where XSeed wanted to do it properly and with quality.

      Its a perfectly valid reason to hate on them for the censorship since they were unwilling to release criminal girls uncensored on PC which for me indicated that they in fact do not give a fuck about what their audience wants given the flack they caught for censoring the Vita release and its even more heavily censored sequel.

      Also if NISA actually fixed the shit people pointed out to them people would have hated them allot less today instead of having those mistakes keep haunting them.
      Just imagine if they just did the right thing and patched the crashing/CPU melting bug in The Witch and the 100 knight. Or released a patch to change back Esty Erhearts name back in Atelier Meruru and apologized for the sneaking in that retarded Esty Dee phun in the final product.

      I certainly would have forgiven them if they had done that.

      But no. Instead their stance was basically “fuck you” on those 2 issues.

      As for the DLC i was mostly referring to their overprized Disgaea DLC on console. Like how their Disgaea 3 DLC pack still costs 50 bucks to this day.

      XSeed has been localizing Falcom’s games for over six years, they are partly responsible for YS gaining western exposure. It seems like a dick move that Falcom would just ditch them to make a quick profit risking a bad localisation. Then again, Falcom have done some shady shit before.

      I don’t think I’ve heard anyone whose only or even main reason for hating NISA is censorship. They have a whole host of problems as you mention, from poor localisation choices to introducing bugs to price gouging and much more, and its poor reputation is well-deserved.

      Hearing NISA is handing Ys 8 made me feel sick. Then I read a tweet from Xseed’s Hatsu. She’s literally cried about this and doesn’t want anyone speaking to her about the publishing for the game.

      As a long time Ys fan this has disappointed me greatly. This will be the first Ys game I will pirate as it’s coming out on PC. I wish there was another way around this so I could still support Xseed but it seems impossible now. Not even an Ys release can break my NISA boycott.

      If anyone from NISA reads this, Fuck you and fuck everyone you work with.

      I will most probably end up buying it too, unless it will end up as shoddy port with game breaking bugs that make it impossible, or painful to play it.
      Ideally i would also love for xseed to have it, but i believe some other publishers could also push a decent product on the market that respects the people that purchase it. Aside from nisa, sadly.

      Well, I can’t talk for the 3DS games since I don’t game on Nintendo platforms but talking about all the Dept. Heaven games back on the PSP, the Persona games, Growlanser, Vanillaware localized titles, Blazblue, the Zero Escape series and a couple others, I honestly don’t see a poor job on localization whatsoever. If there are liberties, they were very hard to spot on unlike Gaijinworks’ or NISA’s. In regards to delays in EU, that’s a whole different issue; we are judging quality of localization, not distribution. So I stand by what I said, XSEED is really good, but they aren’t the only good company localizing games~.

      Xseed has released multiple games with original JP audio in the past. Celceta is an exception, however it had so little in the way of spoken dialogue that it made little difference.

      It’s a matter of trust, I do not trust NISA with any franchise and will continue to boycott them.

      Their localization efforts were well supported with great sales. Likely, the biggest factor here was the PC porting team and money, so sadly, I doubt this would have changed in any way, shape or form.

      Aksys is kinda hit and miss in their localizations.

      On one hand their Muramasa Rebirth was great compared to the godawful localization of the Wii version done by someone else but on the other hand their low was when someone pointed out the shoddy translation of one their Otome VNs on twitter and they simply blocked her.

      But from what i understood they outsource the translation of those Otome games.

      I have my LE preordered but I would be lying if I say that I’m not dreading finding myself with a butchered localization. However, on the topic of censorship, there’s nothing to censor (no fanservice that I’m aware of), PSV games of the past couple years have been bug ridden. Not to mention, I’ve played Corpse Party Blood Drive and that thing crashed my PSV several times, some of those to the point I thought it was bricking it. Of course, one game vs all the fuckups NISA had back in the day is nothing but bugs happen, everywhere. The ratio is another issue~.

      I believe it’s prudent to punish Falcom for simply going with the highest bidder without taking in to consideration the reputation of the company they’re sharing their franchise with.

      I can only hope Falcom realises the error of their judgement when the game receives overwhelmingly negative reviews due to NISA’s censorship policies and the several game breaking bugs that players will come across that never got an ounce of testing pre-release.

      It’s important to take a stand and show Falcon we are NOT okay with their choice. If this makes enough of a dent, then they might reconsider future partnerships with NISA.
