Despite having been in development for roughly a decade, seeing lots of changes and having content removed, switching game directors, Final Fantasy XV has gone on to sell very well both at retail and digital storefronts. Many fans have been wondering if the game’s prolonged development cost can ever be returned.
Now, we’ve learned the game (via Dualshockers) that not only has the game recouped its development costs, it actually broken even on day one. The news was confirmed by game director Hajime Tabata, at Square Enix’s Tokyo headquarters.
To recap, the game both shipped and sold over five million copies on its first day at retail – November 29th. It went on to ship over six million this past January.
Final Fantasy XV is available now on PS4 and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you should check out our written and video review for the game here.
