Rumor: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Sequel Put on Hold

A new rumor has claimed Square Enix is putting the Deus Ex franchise on hold, possibly even cancelling the planned sequel to last year’s Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

The new rumor, via sources confirmed by Eurogamer, has put the blame on Square’s recently announced, behemoth Marvel project that spans multiple games. This new focus, combined with reportedly underwhelming sales of Mankind Divided, had the publisher make the move to put the Deus Ex franchise on hiatus.

The rumor is quite unfortunate if true, as Mankind Divided left a number of story points unresolved, which their sources claim stems from the game becoming too large in scale. To combat this, they cut a portion of content and story bits, leaving them on the table for a third and final game.

The latest downloadable content for Mankind Divided, “A Criminal Past,” is set to launch on February 23rd.
