Halo Wars 2 Gets Physical PC Release via THQ Nordic

Halo Wars 2 is getting not one, but two physical releases for PC players.

Announced in partnership with THQ Nordic, the cross-platform RTS is getting physical editions of both the base game and the Ultimate Edition. In edition, both editions will come with a digital copy of the Xbox One game as a part on Xbox’s Play Anywhere initiative.

Speaking on the collaboration, THQ Nordic Founder and CEO Lars Wingefors said:

After working on so many titles together with Microsoft in 2016, we are stoked to start the year with another partnership. Being able to deliver such a big franchise to RTS and Halo fans alike, the opportunity to buy and own this game in a beautiful physical shape is something we appreciate a lot.

Studio Head for Strategy Games at 343 Industries, Dan Ayoub, also stated:

For fans who love to own the box, we’re excited to partner with THQ Nordic and bring Halo Wars 2 to physical release on Windows 10. THQ Nordic has been great to work with and we look forward to the game’s release on Feb. 21, 2017.

Check out the box art for the releases yourself below. The standard edition costs 60$ and will release February 21st, while the ultimate edition will be available four days earlier at the premium of 80$.

I wonder if you still have to run it through the Steam client.

At least Steamworks is easy to crack.

It’ll probably be a DX12 exclusive so M$ can try and force 2 more people to install Wangblows 10.

    Little context

While Halo itself is not a niche game, I decided to write this because boxed PC games (especially of this caliber) are becoming more and more of a niche in PC Gaming. EA doesn’t even print PC discs anymore. I appreciated the effort Microsoft went through to give a callback to RTS games of yore by giving it an (at least in comparison to today) pretty beefy physical box for PC.

An rts game, and one using one of the most prominent gaming titles “Halo” making it overshadowed, is the most non niche game? That is in fact not true, mate, as almost everyone would be playing Halo wars which is not the case.

No, it is a “Windows 10” exclusive which means you have to run it through their store (aka GFWL 2.0).

After Switch comes out, it’ll be on the least used current console and ditto PC storefront, I don’t see how that isn’t niche.

Well I run Win10 but it is Enterprise LTSB with everything removed that MS can make money from so we’ll see how that works out for them ;)
