We’ve learned of a hot new rumor for the Nintendo Switch and Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
The new rumor comes from Eurogamer, who cites “multiple sources” close to the new versions set to launch for the console sometime next year. The new version of the game is reportedly code-named Pokemon Stars.
The sources also claim the game is being developed by Game Freak, the same team known for the mainline Pokemon games, including Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon.
Eurogamer pointed to the February reveal teaser for both games, noting the brief look at an HD in-game model of the new bird Pokemon Pikipek, which is supposedly only for the Switch edition.
Game Freak has been reportedly working on this Switch version alongside the Nintendo 3DS originals, however development on the Switch version was put on hold a few months ago to finish up the 3DS versions. Now, the team is supposedly continuing working on content that will be exclusive to the Switch version.
It’s worth mentioning the Switch version will reportedly have the same cities, map, routes, and art style – however everything will be rendered with high-resolution assets.
Finally, the report notes the Switch version was originally set for a summer 2017 release but that has since been pushed back into sometime later next year.
When contacted by Eurogamer for a comment, both Nintendo and The Pokemon Company would not respond to the rumor. We’ve also reached out to Nintendo for a comment and will update the article should we get clarification.
