Valve has announced that the PS4 DualShock 4 controller will soon be fully supported through Steam thanks to an update that’s on the way.
The update in question will let players map the controller to their liking, including the DualShock 4’s touchpad and gyro abilities. At this point in time, as a reminder, some Steam games do have limited support for DualShock 4 controllers, but they are far from ‘full’ support – several games still require using a third-party program, and even fewer let you customize the controller, let alone use the touchpad and gyro capabilities of the controller. With this new update, Steam will support the controller for all games.
Other controllers were also mentioned to be receiving support down the line, but the DualShock 4 is the first to get the support – mostly due to the similarities in functionality to the Steam Controller.
It’s not known when this update will hit yet, however, so keep an eye out for the date announcement in the coming weeks.
