Developer Game Atelier has released a new development update for their upcoming Monster Boy reboot, Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom.

While the new update details a few of Monster Boy’s potential transformations (Lion-Man is featured above), the developer also explained the game’s delay into next year.

In response to a fan questioning the game’s release, Game Atelier responded:

The production looks like this:

– Finish Game Production
– Port to Release Platforms
– QA stage Sony/Microsoft
– Agree with both Sony/Microsoft on release date
– Release.

Lots of unknowns for us e.g. because we don’t know how fast we pass TRC (Console QA). We ended up heading into November release which was not recommended by Sony and Microsoft so we [will] launch [the game] in January 2017. The game is 90% finished but we [will] keep adding some new ideas until August before we feature freeze because of the extended time towards January.

The demo will only be playable on Gamescom, it’s not for download unfortunately. Anyway – we [will] also release a new trailer soon! Hope you like it.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom will be releasing across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
