Hidetaka Miyazaki: Dark Souls is Over for Me, From Software Has Started a New IP

We’ve learned (from  GNN Gamer, via NeoGAF) that From Software has started an entirely new IP, alongside series creator Hidetaka Miyazaki saying that he’s personally moved on from the series and is looking to make something new.

“What is certain for now is, to me personally Dark Souls is over,” Miyazaki said. “So rather than make another sequel, I think it’s time we take a step to a new direction. Development of a new IP has already begun.”

Dark Souls III will have several DLCs like previous games. But there is absolutely no plan right now for any sequels, spin-offs, or tie-ins. But I cannot say for certain that the possibility is zero percent,” Miyazaki said.

“For example, if a From Software developer comes to me five years from now and begged ‘please let me make another Dark Souls,‘ then I will not rule out the possibility to let my subordinates start a new project.”

When asked for a remaster for Demon’s Souls, Miyazaki said they’re looking to make new things now. He didn’t say a new Armored Core game is off the table, however, as he said he would personally like to make a new game in the series.

Miyazaki also reiterated that Dark Souls III isn’t finished, as two large DLC expansions are planned for the game – one coming this fall, and a second one coming early next year.
