nioh 04-26-16-(4)

Koei Tecmo and Team Ninja have released the alpha demo for Nioh, their upcoming PlayStation 4 action game.

The alpha demo will give you a taste of the upcoming dark samurai fantasy action game. If you manage to complete the demo, you’ll get ‘The Mark of the Conqueror’ DLC for free.

Featured above as well as below, some new screenshots for the game were released:

Finally, if you fill out this survey after completing the demo, you’ll get an original wallpaper for your smartphone. The playable alpha demo is only available until May 5th.

Nioh is launching for PlayStation 4 sometime later this year, worldwide.

I gave it a try and it is pretty much Dark Souls in a Samurai setting. That’s not my cup of tea, but fans of those series will enjoy it.

It should be said that german PSN users are required to either have a PS+ subscription or to download it from another region. This is unfortunately normal with 18+ rated free downloads here, was the same for P.T. for example.

A DEMO?! What sorcery is this? Such consumer friendly behaviour is rare in the modern gaming industry.

Sure but your western neighbour here would be caught in the radioactive cloud. So maybe poisoning the water supply would be better?

Given it’s a Koei game, enjoy your shit optimization. At least until mods fix it.

i just did the survey just to tell them that, it would be foolish not to release this game on PC, there is a huge souls following community there.

The framerate is masterful and the visuals are great.
Everything else is HORRIBLE. It’s everything wrong with darksouls

Might be, even with all that hate of Dead or Alive 5 port (people cry loudly about dlc costumes that they dont even need; though there are real problems like no lobby in online mp etc)

I think the hate comes from the fact we got the PS3 version.for some unfathomable reason.

And KOEI never was loyal to fans, they are cold blooded. Someone wrote them a letter in early 2000s asking why they dont localize anymore games like Uncharted Waters, Nobunaga’s Triangle etc. and guy said “i grew up with those games” and KOEI answered him “Grow up and move away”.

I have been quite interested in this game for a while, so when this demo came out I got it as soon as I possibly could.
So far I have to say that I like it a lot. I think I will definately check it out when it releases.
But Jesus tapdancing christ it is HARD. I have played through and completed Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls (have not gotten to the other ones yet unfortunately, I really want to), and consider myself fairly skilled at the games, and Nioh seems to make this game seem like a cakewalk. I went in to this game relatively confident in my abilities, and have since died more times than I could have ever predicted, and I have barely made progress it seems.
I am curious to hear what other people’s experiences with the game have been. Has anyone finished it? If so, you have my utmost respect.

Update: I finished the mission in the demo, and got access to the DLC. It took a day or so and a lot of effort, but I succeeded. What has blown me away though is that there is ANOTHER MISSION AREA after that! There is so much content in this Alpha demo. I am definitely checking this game out after this releases. It certainly says a lot that an Alpha demo is creating such a strong reaction to the future product.

So far, it feels like a character action game more than anything else. It would be better if they got rid of the stamina gague and just let it play like a proper character action game.

That would throw the balance way off and make them have to rework everything, but damn the combat is good enough that it could definitely stand on its own in a character action game

Yes it would, and it would be a better game for it. It already feels like character action, so let it just be a character action game instead of trying to emulate Souls

Actually if you play it right and use the right weapon you can treat it like character action. I think it can make for a happy medium if you use the Ki pulse properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPmUPfN33a8

It’s just a difference in tastes. I want Revengence with minimal meter management and Souls like character building.

Honestly, the concept of balancing a game by limiting the players movement and attack options is getting kind of stale already, and its always been silly when we’re usually setting out to slay gods.
