Artyom’s Story Heads To The Silver Screen In Upcoming Metro 2033 Movie

Dmitry Glukhovsky’s Metro 2033 novel – perhaps better known by gamers who have helped turn it into a hit game series by Ukrainian developer 4A Games – is now making a leap to yet another medium: Film.

Produced by Michael De Luca (50 Shades of Gray, The Social Network and Stephen L’Heureux (Sin City: A Dame To Kill For), this movie will not be based off of the games, but rather, tie in directly with the book. Following Artyom, a man born shortly before the war that destroyed the surface world, the movie focuses on his day-to-day struggles and his eventual dealings with the newly birthed sapient species known as the “Dark Ones”.

Glukhovsky was careful about who he would give the movie rights to, stating that he considered the story to be his “baby”:

“My novel and I have been waiting for this to happen for the last 10 years,” said Glukhovsky. “I have previously been extremely careful about handing my ‘baby’ over to Hollywood producers for adaption for a feature film, but now I feel that it has landed in the right hands. De Luca and L’Heureux have a great vision for this project, and I feel it’s an honor to work with them.”

Naturally, it’s still early in production, so there’s no date on which we can expect it to show up in theaters. Regardless, it’s good news for both fans of the series and lovers of dark science fiction in general.
