New Dragonspear Video Shows Shaman NPC, Interface Changes

If you’re still interested in Beamdog’s upcoming Baldur’s Gate expansion Siege of Dragonspear, you’ll want to watch the above stream, which unlike the previous one, is much more question/answer-oriented, making it more of a feature reveal than a gameplay stream.

The video touches upon some very specific and impressive new additions that will be introduced in the expansion, such as the (frequently asked for) ability to hot-swap to a bow even if you have a sword and shield equipped. There’s also adding optional dungeons unattached to quests; an attempt to recreate Baldur’s Gate 1‘s openness. The one explored in the video seems to point to something involving a Lich…could it be Kangaxx?

There are some juicy semi-spoiler bits revealed too, such as Baeloth, the drow arena master from the enhanced editions, having WotC-approved discussions in actual drow language with Grey DeLisle’s (Who voiced new lines for the cleric) Viconia. There are also a few fresh details concerning the new Shaman Class, which include the reveal that the class will change its look on the paper doll inventory as they level – though they don’t elaborate how or why. They do show off the Shaman’s spell set, such as the ability to summon spirit animals (A boar is shown in the video) and the unique Spellward incantation they will have access to. Phillip Daigle describes the Shaman class as a cross between a Druid and a Sorcerer, though possessing spells and abilities that neither have.

Overall, there are a lot of great behind-the-scenes gameplay decisions spoken about in the video, including discussion about how long they struggled trying to figure out who to put in your party at the start of the game. On that subject, gamers interested in seeing their favorite characters return should be happy, since Daigle mentions that they were able to get most of the original voice actors back. Some, however, left the industry and they were not able to contact. Anti-Jahiera players (like myself) might be pleased to know that her voice actress, Heidi Shannon, was one of those who were unreachable.

Though they don’t mention a release date, Siege of Dragonspear should be relatively close to going gold, considering the stability and completeness of the game we’ve seen in these past two streams.
