Final Fantasy XV Pre-Beta Playable on PC

We recently got word from Satoshi Kitade, one of the programmers on Final Fantasy XV, that there is a pre-beta build of the game that is fully playable from start to finish. However, an interesting response came out recently from Kitade regarding the game’s PC build.

To begin with, Kitade specified that the pre-beta build of the game is running on PC (from start to finish as well). And, no, this isn’t news of a PC port, but rather that the game is being developed on PC before being moved to and optimized for consoles. However, this build is also playable on PS4, though it’s not optimized yet.

Also mentioned was the exclusion of the dodge roll function in the previous beta – which was due to memory constraints. Without optimizing the memory for consoles, the available memory really constrains what is possible to be added, which meant that certain things needed to be left out, and the dodge roll function was one of these things that would be added in once the available memory is optimized to include more.

Kitade also talked about a few details regarding the memory optimization and how things that were currently locked out by memory constraints can be easily added in now, and that those constraints may not even apply at all anymore. And, as the development of the released betas were separate from the actual game development, each had their own set of constraints which are now being broken down as the memory optimization process moves forward.

Right now, Final Fantasy XV is launching for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2016. We’re supposed to get an official release date at a special event sometime in March of 2016.
