This week’s Famitsu (via Hachima Kikou, Famitsu) has confirmed that Sega and developer Media Vision are working on not one, but two Valkyria games for PlayStation 4.

First up, Valkyria: Azure Revolution was announced for PlayStation 4. The game is an entirely new entry in the series, and its coming to the console sometime next winter in Japan.

The story is set within Jutland, a small country that is embargoed, economically, by the more powerful Rus Empire. The Rus Empire has been able to achieve fast industrial development, as well as an expansion of its controlled lands. Jutland begins fighting this, under the banner of “independence” and “freedom from colonial oppression,” and they retaliate.

The above scans have a caption entirely in English, which reads:

“Here lie the ‘circle of five,’ whose vengeful actions brought forth an inferno of war. With their execution, the blood of the brave legions is redeemed, and just peace born. They rest eternally in the land of their birth, by the grace of the Holy Mother.”

The confirmed characters thus far include:

(Editor’s Note: We’ve added some scans via @Wario64)

  • Amleth: The main protagonist, and the commanding officer of the elite Anti-Valkyria unit within the Jutland Kingdom.
  • Brynhildr: The heroine, and the princess of the Jutland Kingdom.
  • Ophelia: A Valkyria that has joined with the Rus Empire.

There are some core systems that were detailed, including the Gouache Engine, which recreates visuals akin to the original (which was built with Sega’s Canvas Engine); as well as the Legion battle system, which is a new, real-time battle system with tactical elements. Unfortunately, details are still somewhat scant regarding the combat.

Valkyria Chronicles Remaster was also announced, and it’s launching in Japan on February 10th, for PlayStation 4. The game will have high-resolution visuals, as well as post-launch DLC, and trophy support.

There will be a demo included for Valkyria: Azure Revolution included with the game, and coming from this – Sega will be looking at fan feedback.

The main staff involved with both projects include:

  • Character Models: Flight Unit
  • Director: Takeshi Ozawa
  • Chief Producer: Youichi Shimosato
  • Producer: Katsura Mikami
  • Character Design: Hiro Kiyohara, Takayama Toshiaki
