Paradox Interactive, a leading developer of strategy games (most notably: Crusader Kings, Europa Universalis and Hearts of Iron series), bought White Wolf Publishing from CCP Games, the company behind EVE Online MMO.

White Wolf Publishing is a publisher of tabletop role-playing games, most importantly the ones set in the Old and New World of Darkness universes. A cult classic RPG Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines (pictured above) is set in Old World of Darkness.

According to the press release, Paradox will create a new, independent subsidiary to work on White Wolf’s intellectual properties, noting that they ‘deserve their own brand and team’. This is certainly interesting, considering CCP Games cancelled their own World of Darkness MMORPG based on the IP by White Wolf.

While no further details about any potential games have been made known, one might assume that it means we’re more likely to get a spiritual successor to Bloodlines than a Paradox-style World of Darkness strategy game, though both of those outcomes could lead to very interesting games.
