We’ve learned from a report (via The New Yorker) that Hideo Kojima is officially no longer at Konami or Kojima Productions.

According to a source close to the creator and the entire debacle at Konami, Kojima left the company earlier this month, on October 9th. The source was in attendance at a departure ceremony for Kojima, who has been employed at Konami for nearly three decades.

It’s worth mentioning that Kojima is able to sign with another company in December, after his non-compete clause expires. Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata also spoke on the closure of Kojima Productions.

“It’s a rare case of a highly successful studio being closed down, so obviously everyone is in a state of shock about it, I think,” Hajime Tabata said. “But we believe that we can survive. At least, until the company decides to close us down.”

We’ve reached out to Konami for a comment, and will update this story if we receive a response.

Hideo Kojima first worked at Konami back in 1986, where he went on to created the Metal Gear series, which he has been overseeing since 1987.
