No Locked Framerates, 60+ FPS Promised For PC Version Of Dragon’s Dogma

One of the major reasons why petitions were started amongst Dragon’s Dogma fans was due to the fact that the open world Monster-Hunter-Meets-Dark-Souls RPG ran hideously bad on last generation hardware. A PC version was frequently pleaded for by the game’s devotees, but all they received was the announcement of an online version. Of course, with the reveal that we’d finally be getting that coveted PC version, the first question people started asking was “What about the framerate”?

That answer was solved late last night when Capcom’s Senior Director of Digital Platforms took to neoGAF to quiet the rising tide of folks fed up with playing the game at sub 30FPS:

Dear fellow Arisens -Tons of folks asked whether the upcoming PC port will have a capped frame rate. With DDDA being an MT Framework-based game, you can rest assured it’ll have the usual graphics options found in other Capcom PC titles. Stay tuned as we’ll have more details to share regarding tech specs and features in the coming weeks/months.

Though he doesn’t explicitly come out and say it, the fact that Capcom has been rather good at avoiding the Framerate Police combined with the fact that it’s an MT Framework 2.0 based game means we should see a quality port. Especially since the newer version of MT, which debuted within Lost Planet 2, allowed for 60fps.

This is great news, since as someone who played Dragon’s Dogma and enjoyed it, I found the 15-30 framerate to be nearly unbearable. Having an unlocked framerate and a full suite of PC-centric graphics options should allow people to fully appreciate the gorgeous world that the game created. No word yet on how they’ll handle the keyboard controls and if it will be optimized for a WADS-esque playstyle.
