Glorious Physics-Based Action RPG The Dwarves Now on Kickstarter

King Art Games have released their physics-based action RPG, The Dwarves, onto Kickstarter.

The game is based on the award-winning novel of the same name by German author Markus Heitz, which has gone on to span a series of five novels.

King Art is looking for $260,000 to finish the game for PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, with a release sometime in the middle of next year.

The key thing to what makes The Dwarves stand out is its crowd combat system, which King Art has put a lot of focus on. You’ll always be surrounded by a group(s) of enemies, and as you clash weapons and armor, friend and foe alike will push, shove, and stumble around.

Overall the combat is likened to Warcraft 3, where some missions had you controlling only one (or a few) heroes. As you engage larger and larger groups of enemies, you’ll have to manage each hero and their own unique abilities, which all can be limited by cooldowns.

The core single-player story is said to last at least 20 hours, with lots of optional side-quests that will have you thinking of how to progress. If you’re not a fan of reading in-game dialogue, it’s worth mentioning that every line of conversation is also fully-voiced.

Here are the game’s highlights:

  • Explore a huge game world with an ever-growing group of companions
  • Experience an epic story with many optional side-quests and tough decisions
  • Discover unique traits about your 15 different companions and improve their skills
  • Fight against hundreds of enemies in epic real-time battles that combine dynamic action and tactical depth

Curious why their funding goal isn’t in the millions? King Art Games have secured most of the funding to build the game from private investors, and with the campaign sitting at roughly $200,000 at the time of writing (and a little over two weeks left), it’s safe to say the game is probably getting funded.

Regardless, you should check out The Dwarves here on Kickstarter.
