We’ve learned that iconic fighting game developer SNK Playmore has been purchased by an external company.
Chinese company Leyou Technologies has reportedly purchased 81.25% of SNK Playmore’s stock, for $63.5 million. This grants Leyou majority stake over SNK Playmore.
The key reasoning behind this purchase comes from Oriental Securities CEO Zheng Jianhui (who are part of the joint venture with Leyou), who said they bought SNK for their characters and various intellectual properties.
Here’s where things get a bit more interesting – Leyou Technologies are planning to expand their business strategy with this purchase to be more like Marvel, meaning new projects with SNK Playmore’s IPs outside of games. However, this includes more games, tv shows, movies, and so on.
