The Debut Trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode is Here

Telltale Games has finally released the debut trailer for Minecraft: Story Mode.

The new story-driven adaptation was announced back in December, and the above trailer is for the first episode of it – in regular Telltale-fashion.

Here’s the first synopsis, via Telltale:

You’ll control protagonist Jesse throughout the season, as portrayed by actor Patton Oswalt. Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order are the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.

The season will feature Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Ashley Johnson, Scott Porter, Martha Plimpton, Dave Fennoy, Corey Feldman, Billy West, and Paul Reubens. Look for further casting details to come!

Probably the best way to go about it, really.

That’s been the whole thing with Minecraft, making your own story, so it fits.

One might also argue that having a rigid story mode in a game about creative freedom kind defeats the purpose though.

    Oh well.

I was one of those guys saying “oh give it a chance, Telltale has made good games out of IPs I don’t care about before” but yeah nah this looks pretty bad to be honest.

This looks really, really stupid. But, I’m not surprised in the least.

Terraria: Story Mode when? I want to see how they’ll make a story involving a wall of flesh and Cthulhu.

The thing is, thanks to the NPCs, there IS a story there. The Old Man being possesed them becoming your tailor. The fact you have to kill the guide.

All “implied” narratives that require the player’s imput/imagination sure, but there’s the bones of a story there.

Minecraft? Not really. Even the origins of Endermen and Villagers isn’t that important because they seem natural and part of the square world.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: Telltale Games is a joke whoring itself out to whoever is paying.

And what is the plot? I really couldn’t get anything out of that trailer other than “There will be zombie killing QTEs” and “Something bad happens”.

Shame it is a Telltale game, if I had to deal with a failure of this scale I would at least make a JRPG or something, we even got the wide cast of pretty different characters! It would still be bad, but hey, at least you saw a Minecraft JRPG within your lifetime, there’s some value to be had in that right?

Or Minecraft Kart Racing! Or Minecraft Grand Strategy! Or anything but this, this just has no redeeming value whatsover.
