Bandai Namco have released the first official batch of Tales of Berseria screenshots on the game’s official website, alongside some new tidbits of information.

As we mentioned in our previous report, the game takes place in the Midgand Sacred Kingdom, a nation that holds great power across the ocean that dominates the continent. The region has countless islands that are broken down into individual respective territories.

As shown in the above screenshots, there are wildly different climates between the northern and southern regions. These differing climates will naturally affect the local culture, as the residents will adapt to the changing temperatures and weather.

You’ll even see different building structures and daily routines taken up by local villagers, depending on the region and climate. The world has been getting colder recently, however, as the northern region is getting blanketed by snow.

The Midgand Sacred Kingdom is a region known for their knack in ship building, as well as their furthering of the art of sailing. Trade is greatly pushed throughout the various locales in the kingdom.

There are concerns for merchants, as the weather and ocean currents may be dangerous. Coming from this, merchants will use specific trade routes, although these may also be plagued by pirate attacks.

Tales of Berseria is reportedly going to feature weather effects to compliment the very different climates, like autumn leaves falling, baking summer islands, and even the rising and setting of the sun.

The protagonist, Velvet, stands at 170 cm tall and is 19 years old. Voiced by Rina Sato, she used to be a regularly tempered and well-mannered girl, with a devotion to her family. A recent event (that occurred three years ago) changed everything, however, as she is entirely different.

Velvet rarely smiles now, and while she appears stoic in nature, she regularly inhibits feelings of hatred, and anger. Any kindness she may have left is held back, and instead she harbors a cold, yet burning passion that is said to shake up the world.

In related news, the game was trademarked in Europe, so we should be hearing about a western release for the game at some point.

Tales of Berseria is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Playstation 3.
