Fans have been throwing all kinds of things into Unreal Engine 4, but with the most recent update (version 4.8), we’ve also seen the iconic Nintendo mascot being integrated into the engine.
Featured above, you can view a gameplay video of a re-created Mario, who is played through a variety of environments that were assembled using assets from the Unreal marketplace. The developer behind this, Aryok Pinera, has stated that all of Mario’s animations and textures have been re-created from scratch.
While this is definitely not indicative of an all-out Super Mario project, it’s certainly interesting to see developers tinkering with iconic (and legally protected) icons in pet-projects like this.

June 27, 2015 at 5:57 pmI knew this guy’s name was familiar. It’s the same guy who is/was doing the Super Mario 64 HD remake:

Perhaps this indicates he is considering to switch over to UE4 for this project? Though considering he is asking on youtube about the legalities of such project, I suspect he chickened out in the end.

June 27, 2015 at 9:08 pmAh that is a good find. I was trying to double check if we wrote about that – we didn’t. This is interesting, though

June 28, 2015 at 1:32 amAh, it’d be a blast if we could get a decent Mario model for SFM. Pretty sure there are already a few, though.

June 28, 2015 at 2:47 amif he wanted to make a super mario 64 remake on unreal engine 4 all on his own and release it into the wild there is nothing stopping him, they could not track it and they could not stop it from spreading at that point
but yeah if he thinks he can announce openly what he’s doing and not expect nintendo unleash the lawyer legion he’d be wrong
