The Wang Returns – Shadow Warrior 2 is Confirmed for PC, PS4, and Xbox One

We had rumblings of a new fantasy shooter in development by Shadow Warrior reboot developer Flying Wild Hog, back in February of this year. Now, publisher Devolver Digital has confirmed to us that Shadow Warrior 2 is in development at the studio.

The game is currently in development for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC, with a release date pinned for next year. Featured above, a teaser trailer for the new sequel was revealed.

As expected, players will step into the role of Lo Wang yet again, complete with his guns, blades, and his quick wit. Devolver Digital shared a brief synopsis for the game with us:

Shadow Warrior 2 is the stunning evolution of Flying Wild Hog’s offbeat first-person shooter following the further misadventures of former corporate shogun Lo Wang. Now surviving as a reclusive mercenary on the edge of a corrupted world, the formidable warrior must again wield a devastating combination of guns, blades, magic and wit to strike down the demonic legions overwhelming the world. Battle alongside allies online in four-player co-op or go it alone in spectacular procedurally-generated landscapes to complete daring missions and collect powerful new weapons, armor, and arcane relics of legend.

The first gameplay for Shadow Warrior 2 will be revealed on Monday, June 15th, at 12:30 p.m. PDT / 3:30 p.m. EDT / 8:30 p.m. BST, via Twitch.

    Welp. Can’t put any effort into well-built levels if you have to cash in on the co-op crap.

    The Witcher 3 has a procedurally-generated landscapes and it’s loved by a lot of people. See Witcher 3 world building GDC slides. They generate the world to save time and then make the rest by hand.

    Four wangs at once! How can you fit it all.
    On a side note, There sure were a lot of Japanese people with Chinese accents in the last games, I wonder if they are going to keep running with that. I kind of hope they do, for me it is a bit nostalgic. It’s a very 80’s thing to do.

    The first game (meaning the reboot) is what Duke Nukem Forever should’ve been. I’m really happy we’re getting a sequel.

    Eh, after they toned down the Wang in the remake, I lost my ability to care about this series. Best of luck to them. Hope it does well.

    This may work fine for an open-world RPG that does not and is not supposed to give you overly many borders, but I fear that doing the same for the (usually) much tighter levels of a FPS game will not add up.
