RPG Maker 2003 is Officially Released in English on Steam

Publisher Degica has brought Enterbrain’s RPG Maker 2003 to Steam. This marks the first time the RPG-building engine has been officially available in English.

Featured above, you can view an overview trailer for the new release. RPG Maker 2003 was the first in the ongoing series of RPG-building engines to allow for a sideview battle system, which can easily make any classic-JRPG fan feel right at home.

While you have to sign a third-party EULA, the engine itself will give you full rights to commercially produce and release in RPG Maker 2003, assuming that you’re using entirely royalty free or your own assets.

You can findRPG Maker 2003 here on Steam, for $19.99.

So wait a sec… Is this a release of an older version?

I lost track of their releases, what with their fanciful names which don’t directly infer sequence – XP, VX, Ace, 2003…

Wait, why the hell are they releasing an older version instead of the newest one – RPG Maker VX ACE? I see that the trend of Japan making strange decisions continues as always.
Also, when the heck are we getting a new version? It’s already been 3+ years since the last one, I would go as far as to say 7+ years since there wasn’t THAT much of a difference between VX and VX ACE.

    It is.

It’s also the version with MUCH better looking default sprites, but that’s just my opinion.

I have always wondered if I should buy one of these maker programs just to putz around with. I got a good RPG idea about escaping an infinite safe space full of intolerable shits. Maybe I will
