We’ve learned (via IGN) the real name of Playtonic Games’ upcoming Banjo-Kazooie spiritual successor.
The game’s full name is Yooka-Laylee, and it’s set for a Kickstarter campaign tomorrow, May 1st. Playtonic Games is a new indie studio made up of many ex-Rare developers, most of them serving in key roles within the Banjo-Kazooie and Donkey Kong Country games.
Featured above, you can get a first look at the game, via IGN. We’ve also gotten a real look at the two heroes that you can play as, Yooka and Laylee:
Players will be in control of Yooka the chameleon, and Laylee the bat. Both characters were designed by Steve Mayles, the character designer who created the iconic duo, Banjo and Kazooie.
In the game, players will be able to make use of the unique and character-specific abilities found within both creatures. These run the gamut of Laylee making use of its wings to carry Yooka across regions, Yooka using his tongue as a grappling hook, and even unleashing sonar blasts from Laylee.
Finally, a Kickstarter is coming tomorrow for the game – fans will be able to back the game for $15 / £10, respectively, earning a finished copy whenever development is complete. While the game is planned for a release on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Wii U, and PC, we currently don’t know when each version will be released, and if the crowdfunding campaign will have stretch goals.
We’ll keep you guys posted once the game’s Kickstarter campaign goes live.
