Weekly Shounen Jump magazine reveals this week that the upcoming PS Vita game, Tokyo Ghoul: Masquerader, which is based on the popular manga and anime franchise, will feature both a new protagonist and a new story.

The protagonist in Tokyo Ghoul: Masquerader will be a ghoul named Rio, “a young man who becomes the key to the story”. Rio is chasing someone in an attempt to save his brother, who has been captured. This new protagonist and the protagonist of the manga, Kaneki, will share a relationship of some sort, the magazine hints.

The author of the manga, Sui Ishida, will be responsible for the new character and the new story.

In Masquerader, players will be able to travel freely throughout Tokyo’s 23 wards, and converse with specific characters, deepening the protagonist’s relationship with them, which will in turn affect the game’s ending. The game’s genre is described as “adventure RPG”.

Tokyo Ghoul: Masquerader has no set release date or price yet.

Bandai Namco are also developing a mobile game for the franchise.
