A Sneak Peek At Wasteland 2’s GOTY Edition Quirk System

With Wasteland 2 getting an engine upgrade to the new version of Unity and a console edition that will include various gameplay tweaks and content additions, it’s hard to say when we’ll ever see the true end of development for inXile’s kickstarter CRPG. Unlike most GOTY editions though, which are merely DLC bundled with the main game, Wasteland 2’s will be a much improved version with more than just a few new bells and whistles.

What could impact your next (or first) play through of the game the most, however, is the new Quirk system. Similar to Fallout’s perks, these new features allow you to add bonuses to your characters and flesh them out a bit better. The US Playstation Blog has a nice write-up about them:

Of course, that’s all great, but how does it play? In this new edition, we’re beefing up our existing gameplay and adding some new features. You’ll be able to customize your squad even more with our new Perks and Quirks (traits) to add unique bonuses and characteristics. Our new Precision Strike (aimed shots) system will let you target individual body parts to cripple or stun enemies, or shatter their armor so you can mop them up, giving you even more options in combat. And you’ll need those options, because we’ve been hard at work hand-crafting each battle you’ll find yourself in.

All of the changes due to appear in the console editions will eventually show up on the PC, according to a post by Brian Fargo.
