We’ve learned (via Famitsu) that a new game in Spike Chunsoft’s Mystery Dungeon series is coming to both Playstation 4 and PS Vita.

The new game, titled Fushigi no Chronicle: Furikaerimasen Katsu Madewa (Mystery Chronicle: I Won’t Look Back Until I Win, in English), is coming to both aforementioned platforms some time this Spring in Japan.

The game changes things up a bit with its roguelike elements, where it’s likened to Smoking Wolf’s One Way Heroics, in which the entire world is a “force scrolling RPG.” To be clear, with each passing turn, the world is slowly consumed by a strange light. Players can also name their worlds, which in turn affect the generation of the game world.

Fushigi no Chronicle: Furikaerimasen Katsu Madewa is directly inspired by the game, in fact, as we’ve learned via an interview with producers Yuichiro Saito and Yoshinori Terasawa that they were impressed by One Way Heroics at the latest BitSummit expo. “We came up with the base of our game when discovering One Way Heroics at Bitsummit,” Saito said when asked of the game’s origins. “The mix of roguelike RPG elements and forced scrolling was a bit strange to us at first, but once we got our hands on it, the game turned out to be really fun.”

“We thought of simply porting the original game to home consoles. The issue there is that the original version can be played for free, which means people are unlikely to pay for a port like that,” Saito revealed when asked if the game is a remake of One Way Heroics.  “We were actually in the middle of porting it to consoles when we got ideas of how to improve things and expand the original game. We felt like we had something genuinely new, so we asked the original developer if he’d let us make something new with his game as the foundaton”
