tri-Ace is Going to Continue Making Traditional Console Games

phantasy star nova 03-09-15-1

It seems like word of Nepro Japan buying out storied Japanese RPG developer tri-Ace forced the publisher to reveal their future plans for the developer, and the outlook is brighter than you probably thought.

tri-Ace will be continuing their development of console games, news coming from a new press release from Nepro Japan. In the press release, Nepro details the future of tri-Ace:

Nepro Japan is vying to become an excellent producer of games in both quality and scale, via both tri-Ace and their other subsidiary, Mobile & Game Studio. Despite their final goal being superb game creators, they have divided this up into four parts:

  • Obtain a high satisfaction rate (from both publishers and players)
  • Pioneer new technology
  • Foster new talent and hires
  • Pursue bigger scale and profits

The above image is from tri-Ace’s latest release, Phantasy Star Nova, which shipped last November in Japan on the Playstation Vita.

Cool. Maybe they’ll make a Star Ocean game that doesn’t have a crappy story.

Best news I’ve heard all day. So relieved. Can’t wait for their first new console game announcement!

Good for people that like those games and such. I haven’t tried any of their library, but it is very pleasant to see a console developer not only stick to their strengths rather than dying a slow death making uninspired mobile games but make it clear what their general goals are.

I’ll believe it when I see it. Their definition of “console” is handheld, because Tri-Ace hasn’t made an actual console game in over 5 years.

Can someone tell me why the entire PS3 generation passed without them making Valkyrie Profile 3?

Star Ocean is dead. Series creator didn’t even want to make the 4th one and has said it’s done.

Resonance of Fate was. And i believe they contributed heavily to FF XIII-2 and Lightning Returns

That’s depressing. That’s the one thing I’d want them to make

Yeah. Resonance of Fate was 5 years ago! Scary isn’t it.

Also, if that’s true about the FF13 games, that’s so sad they got roped into working on that garbage.

Cautiously optimistic. I hope they make a new Valkyrie Profile.

I highly recommend star ocean if you’re a fan of rpgs. The combat is more action based but they have a pretty in depth crafting system and skill customization. The second story is still one of my favorites to this day along with chrono trigger and xenogears

Tri-Ace did the best bit of FFXIII/FFXIII-2 the battle system I believe.

Honestly I don’t really like them anymore. I haven’t enjoyed any of there games since Star Ocean 4 and that’s pushing it.

Maybe that’s why SO4 was so average.

Well, that’s that. I kind of wished to see at least one Star Ocean game in 3D to be good.

Now if only the publishers they’ve been working for would see fit to localize their products.

+1 for Star Ocean. Definitely try the Second Story and Till the End o Time.

I also recommend Valkyrie Profile. Both PSX and PS2 are some of the best console JRPG games just because of the sheer uniqueness the two games provide.

I love Tri-Ace but it wouldn’t hurt to do some PC ports would it?

Star Ocean is a must, especially Till the End of Time. IMO it’s one of the best JRPGs ever imo.

I’m glad they were saved. Still, I wished PC would be a part of their gameplan going forward…

There are no “best bit”s in 13, especially not the cheap and overly simplistic battle system.

Can’t see how. It’d be completely mindless if it wasn’t for the 1-hit-ko monsters sprinkled all throughout the game.
