Mobcast and Enhance Games have managed to get the rights to the Lumines and Meteos properties from their former owner, Q Entertainment.

You might be wondering if this is good news, being that both Mobcast and Enhance Games are completely new studios. While Q Entertainment is still around, they’ve moved onto other games, like Destiny of Spirits. Enhance Games on the other hand, is a new California-based studio, headed by Lumines creator (and one of my personal idols) Tetsuya Mizuguchi.

It’s worth noting that we’ve known about Mizuguchi-san returning to making games (after a hiatus) back in May of last year, so welcome back Mizuguchi-san!

Finally, a new Lumines game is being developed for both iOS and Android, which already has a worldwide launch set in place. Fans can expect the same kind of music (predominantly electronic) and feel that made the series popular, but it’ll naturally have some tweaks to make it more fun to play on smartphones. There will also be a bunch of new stages, as well as Mobcast Social Victory Space (SVS) multiplayer support.

I for one am very, very excited to see Mizuguchi-san returning to form, as Lumines and music games in general are some of my favorite gaming experiences.
