Square Enix Trademarked A New SaGa Game, May Reveal It During 25th Anniversary Celebrations

saga Makai Tōshi Sa·Ga the final fantasy legend

Square Enix is throwing a celebration for the 25th anniversary of its SaGa series. Here’s the itinerary:

  • 11:00 to 17:50 – Playthrough of Makai Tōshi Sa·Ga (AKA The Final Fantasy Legend, in the West), the first ever SaGa game in the series
  • 17:50 to 18:00 – Intermission
  • 18:00 to 20:10 – 25th anniversary special for the SaGa series

(Remember, this is Japan time, i.e. UTC+09:00)

The last entry in the series (not counting the social game, Emperor’s SaGa) was Unlimited SaGa on the PlayStation 2, all the way back in 2002. Akitoshi Kawazu, developer and creator of the series, revealed a while ago that a new SaGa game has already been in slow and quiet development, and will happen eventually.

Square Enix trademarked “SaGa Asterism” last month, ahead of this stream, so maybe we’ll finally hear something about a new, proper entry in the series towards the end of the commemoration. Let’s hope it isn’t yet another mobile game.

You’ll be able to watch the stream over at Niconico tomorrow.
